Background of the Study
Female political leaders have become increasingly significant in shaping public policy, particularly in advancing gender-sensitive agendas that promote equality and social justice (Ola & Bello, 2024). In Lafia Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, women in political leadership positions have the potential to influence the formulation of policies that address the unique needs of women and other marginalized groups (Tijani & Jibril, 2023). However, women’s participation in political leadership has been constrained by various societal, cultural, and institutional barriers (Bala & Ibrahim, 2025). Despite these challenges, female political leaders in Lafia have managed to push for changes in areas such as education, healthcare, and economic empowerment, aiming to create a more inclusive and equitable society (Usman & Ado, 2023). This study examines the role of female political leaders in Lafia in shaping public policy, focusing on their contributions to policymaking and the challenges they face in influencing political agendas.
